Rotten to the Core / Assholes in Albany
I think it is really Rotten that we are still not allowed to get married in New York State- thanks to a bunch of Republican Assholes in Albany. Also adding to the list of assholes are the Democrats who voted against the bill included Sens. Joseph Addabbo, Shirley Huntley, George Onorato and Hiram Monserrate of Queens, Carl Kruger of Brooklyn, Ruben Diaz Sr. of the Bronx, Darrel Aubertine of the North Country, and William Stachowski of the Buffalo area. The Federal Government, should take example from our neighbor to the North (Canada) .
Frank Jump and Vincenzo Aiosa got married on Valentine’s Day, February 14th 2004 in Toronto, Canada.
Thank you Equal Marriage Canada, The Great City and People of Toronto, The Honorable Justice Harvey Brownstone and his partner Marty, and Brendan Fay and Jesús Lebrón!

He has recently completed his Masters Degree at Brooklyn College through the NYC Teaching Fellows Program. Both Jump & Aiosa are thrilled to be tying the knot in Toronto and thank the Canadian regional government for their broad-minded and inclusive marriage laws. They are both hoping the United States makes the right choice in recognizing same-sex unions.
Places
The Maimonides Cemetery on Jamaica Ave, Brooklyn from the exterior has a mysterious and foreboding presence. I am sure that with some power washing and a fresh coat of paint it would go back to its original splendor and it will generate some work with area businesses.
I remember in 1973 walking past it every day on the way to Abraham Lincoln Middle School I.S. 171, and even then I always accelerated my pace while walking that stretch of Jamaica Avenue where there are three cemeteries entrances.

Middle Village is a neighborhood in central Queens
If you cross the Po on the Piazza Vittorio bridge, you will find yourself directly in front of the Gran Madre di Dio church. It is a scenographic construction in a circular shape, built between 1818 and 1831 to commemorate the return of Vittorio Emanuele I to Turin on the 20 May 1814. The church houses the remains of 5000 men who fell in the first world war. Note the access staircase with the two statues of Religion and Faith and, inside, the Crucifix and Sacred Heart of Jesus. – My Travel Guide

American Legion Post 309 – Poles of America – Cleveland, OH

The ALLIANCE OF POLES OF AMERICA was established in Cleveland on 22 Sept. 1895 by 68 dissatisfied members of Group 143 of the Polish National Alliance (PNA), who disagreed with the PNA’s decision to admit as members POLES who were not Catholic (see CATHOLICS, ROMAN). Thomas Zolnowski was elected chair of the new organization, Teofil Golembiewski vice-chair, Thomas Rutkowski secretary, and Joseph Deranek treasurer. The new group, named the Alliance of Poles of Ohio, held its first convention in St. Stanislaus’s Parish Hall on 2 Jan. 1897. Its treasury then held $1,918. By its 1903 convention in Toledo, OH, the Alliance had expanded to other cities and the treasury had surpassed $20,000.
By July 1917, a number of Poles living outside of Ohio had joined the Alliance and its name changed to the Alliance of Poles of America. In 1925 the Alliance, with 17,000 members, began construction of its $180,000 national headquarters at Broadway and Forman Avenues, which opened on 7 Feb. 1926. Membership fell to 13,000 in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan in 1935; 8,000 of these belonged to the Alliance’s 66 Cleveland branches. Yet the Alliance expanded its activities, beginning a newspaper, Zwiazkowiec (the Alliancer), and contributing to charitable and educational efforts to benefit Poles both in the homeland and in the U.S.
Assets continued to grow, reaching $4 million in 1960. By 1973 the Alliance continued as both an insurance and a social organization with 15,000 members in 60 lodges in the Cleveland area. In addition to insurance, it offered to its members mortgage loans, maintained a welfare fund for sick or disabled members, awarded college scholarships, sponsored sports, a drama club, a scouting program, and showings of Polish films. Later on the drama club evolved into the Polish theater, and a library and the Polish School have been added. The current trend of the Alliance is to assume an increasingly larger role as a cultural organization. In 1988 the Alliance of Poles of America proposed to build a Polish Village in NORTH ROYALTON. With headquarters at 6966-68 Broadway Ave., by 1990 it had 23,000 members, and by 1994, assets of more than $8.7 million

Tribute to My Grandma Schimmenti Rosaria – Cleveland, OH
An homage for Nonna Rosaria Schimmenti
When ever I think of my grandma I cannot help but feeling sadness, in part because I miss her to this day sadly she passed away 24 years ago. I have bits and pieces of information about her infancy in her native Cleveland, Ohio. This is what I think is to be true some of these facts have been told to me by grandma, some by a distant cousin in Cleveland and the rest is just put together by pure conjecture.
Grandma was born in April of 1907 in Cleveland Ohio her father was Rosario Schimmenti and Maria ? Schimmenti, her mother died in 1910 (child birth?) leaving Grandma and her father alone in order to care for her Rosario married Maria? Bellomo a widow with several older children Still disillusioned and saddened by his first wife death in 1914 as Italy gets ready to fight the biggest conflict of its time .
Rosario decides to leave to return to his native Polizzi Generosa (Palermo) . Grandma always tell me that she did not want to leave Cleveland but girls had to shut up and listen in those days as for Mrs Bellomo. Grandma use to refer to her as a Santa Fimmina (holy woman).
Whether she was really grateful to her for having saved her from living without a mother or whether she was being sarcastic we will never really know every thing about those days was shrouded in mystery.
SO if you know more about this please don’t hesitate to comment.
